Story: Based on the Arthur Hailey bestseller, this is the one that started the GRAND HOTEL type air disaster films of the 70's and spawned three sequels. It is the story of one night at a busy airport, during a blizzard, and how lives are intertwined and affected. The airport manager, who has to deal with family problems, internal problems, and a paralyzed jet blocking his critical runway. The security manager, who has to deal with everyday problems. The married pilot who is having an affair with one of stewardess. Add to this a stowaway, a mad bomber, and you have the ingredients for an exciting motion picture. Nominated for ten Academy Awards including Best Picture (losing to PATTON), Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound, Best Original Score, Best Film Editing and Best Costume Design. Both Stapleton and Hayes were nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and Hayes won.

Video: Presented in anamorphic widescreen 2.35:1 - Enhanced for 16x9 televisions.

Comments: Released in 1999 in a Full-Frame version, Goodtimes has now released this classic as it should be seen, in a 30th Anniversary widescreen edition, and it is now released in an Amray keepcase instead of the earlier Snapper case. The sound is outstanding along with the video, beautiful color and no bleeding or pixilation.
