GHOST
Reviewed April 17th, 2001 by John Randall

The movie that made the word “ditto” so popular. The movie that made “Unchained Melody” unforgettable. The movie that made so many laugh and so many more cry.

I absolutely love this movie even if the story is pretty simple: Patrick Swayze plays Sam, who ends up dead. In a ghostly form, Sam finds out who kills him and tries to warn the love of his life Molly (Demi Moore). Sam gets the help of Oda Mae Brown (the great Whoopi Goldberg) who is the only person who can hear him.

That is about all I'm going to say about the plot. If you have not seen it, I would advise from reading too many reviews. This is truly a romance, comedy and thriller - all in one. The film contains some of the most unforgettable scenes in all of motion picture history. The storyline is great, the special effects are wonderful and all of the actors really shine.

The video is presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen and is generally pretty good but blows away any past release. Detail and image are both very good.

The audio is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 (2.0 English and French tracks are also provided). Music and dialogue do very well throughout the film.

Extras only include an audio commentary with director Jerry Zucker and writer Bruce Joel Rubin, a featurette and a trailer.

This incredible movie is now on a pretty darn good DVD and I'm sure many people will run out and get it. If you have not yet seen this film - you really are missing out. The movie runs just over two hours and is rated PG-13. Winner of 2 Academy Awards, the film is highly recommended and so is the DVD.
