GOOD WILL HUNTING: CANADIAN SPECIAL EDITION
Reviewed March 12th, 1999 by Staff

Starring Robin Williams, Matt Damon, Minnie Driver, and Ben Affleck. The screenplay is by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and directed by Gus Van Sant.

Alliance in Canada has done it again. The video is presented in 1.85:1 and is enhanced for 16x9 (not like the American version). It includes an English 5.1 track and also a French 5.1 track and even Commentary by Damon, Affleck and Van Sant. The disc also has 12 deleted scenes (11 in America) and some behind the scenes footage.

The image is great. Blacks seem a bit strong sometimes, but the image was very clear and there was no signs of any compression problems. The DD 5.1 soundtrack is great though uses no real directional effects from the rears (remember that this movie is mostly conversational).

The movie itself is was astonishing. Robin Williams plays a dramatic part and does a great job of it. The story in short is about a young man who is a genius, but is also a troublemaker. Once he is found to be very gifted, a professor puts his reputation on the line to save Will Hunting (Damon) from going to jail. The terms of Hunting's release is that he must help with the professor and have to seek counseling. That's were the clashing really begins. It's up to Robin Williams to get inside Hunting's head - a very hard job to do. The movie was excellent and so was this DVD. Highly recommended. The movie is rated R and is 126 minutes in length.
