PROPHECY II, THE
Reviewed October 3rd, 1999 by Staff

Christopher Walken has returned as the mighty dark angel Gabriel. The battle between the dark angels and those who are still faithful to God continues. This time around the fate of humanity is within an unborn child that was conceived by a human and an angel.

The story starts as a woman (Jennifer Beals) is driving and suddenly hits a strange man with her car. At the same time, the Devil appears and releases Gabriel from Hell. The woman and the strange man have a brief encounter after he is released from the hospital. She soon finds out that he is in fact an angel and she is pregnant. Gabriel searches for her fighting other angels in the process. Will she survive? Will the other angels protect her and her unborn child?

The video is presented in 1.85:1 widescreen format and is not 16x9 enhanced. Overall, this movie is a very dark film and black level seems dead on. Color levels are very well done and there seems to be no grain or compression problems. A very good transfer, though it is not as sharp as more recent films.

The audio is in Dolby Surround and does ok. A 5.1 mix for both Prophecy movies would have been better, but dialogue and sound seems clear with very little use of the surrounds.

Overall, a very entertaining movie, but not as good as the original. The movie runs 83 minutes and is rated R.
