ROCKY IV
Reviewed February 8th, 1999 by Staff

One of the better made Rocky movies (excluding the orginial). Basically, take World Champ Rocky (Sly Stallone) and match him up against a towering Russian to duke it out in the ring. Many of the support cast has returned again for this installment. The DVD version was both stunning and very much lacking. The video transfer of the film is a VERY good transfer compared to what can be seen on cable and VHS. Only slight grain in some areas but overall, the image is sharp and full of color. Now we come to the audio. The DVD is encoded with a 5.1 soundtrack, HOWEVER...even though it DOES sound good (much better than VHS/cable any day), the surrounds are not used to the degree they could have been. The sound is more like 2.0 than 5.1 and no directions from the surrounds could be heard at all. The audio quality from what can be heard is amazing. Maybe not as good as newer movies, but this is the best version of the movie to date (audio and video).
