THIN RED LINE, THE
Reviewed October 17th, 1999 by Staff

The Thin Red Line is a WWII drama that really delivers and stars an all-star cast. In the movie you’ll see Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, John Cusack, Woody Harrelson, John Travolta and even George Clooney amongst many others.

This is a hard story to explain in a short review. One thing is for certain: If you did not see this movie because it came out right after Saving Private Ryan, besides the WWII theme, that is the only similarity between the two films.

The whole story is seen through the eyes of a few main characters when they land on an island and search for the Japanese. Just ordinary men going through impossible situations.

The video is presented in 2.35:1 widescreen and is an anamorphic transfer. The video is perfect. Colors and black levels are dead on and there is not a hint of compression problems, scratches or any other kind of imperfection. This could be the best transfer of any DVD to date.

The audio is presented in DD 5.1, and a 2.0 track is also available. Dialogue seems very clear and the there are some good surround effects and the sub will not let you down.

Strangely, the only supplemental material is the option to listen to 11 different Melanesian songs (all in 2.0). Overall, a great entertaining movie and a perfect transfer. The movie is rated R.
